In dealing with thousands of help desk requests, there is a rule that I have promoted but never published.  So here it is:
 

Before Calling Try Rule #1

 
Many computer and internet problems can be solved by simply power cycling the computer or printer.  This means to completely remove power and sometimes it is not enough to simply power it down.  Try unplugging the power cord and depressing the power switch for 15 seconds. Then power the computer back up again. 

In the case of computer, modem and router, power all down.  Then start at the wall applying power until each device has initialized and is fully "ready."  In this case, power on the modem, then the router and lastly the computer.

If it still will not work, now it is time to call Primary Computer Service.
