Do you know how Vista Is
Hurting Your PC ? |
| While Vista may
very well be the latest and greatest operating system from
Microsoft, there are some very unusual things going on that the
average user doesn’t realize. If your computer is behaving
oddly, and performance seems to be at an all-time low, you’re
probably a victim of the dreaded Vista “experience”.
If you can answer "Yes" to at
least one of these questions, you’ve got a Vista-related
problem:
Is your Vista system slow booting up or shutting down?
Does it take longer to load programs than it used to?
Do games or video-intensive programs seem to hang or slow
way down?
Do you find your system running low on memory more
frequently?
Are you tired of poor performance and having to reboot more
often?
Sounds like you need some
help. But don’t feel bad; you’re not alone.

According to recent surveys more
than 90% of VISTA PCs become slower within one month of regular
use!
One month! And after that,
performance continues to degrade, month after month, until
you’re left with a barely-usable system that’s so frustrating to
use that you can hardly bear to turn it on.

October 3, 2005 - Customer called with OS corruption on
computer. He called the manufacturer who said his files could not be
recovered - NOT TRUE! The manufacturer had him load the recovery cd and
therefore he lost all documents. NEVER load recovery disk or format hard
drive without first saving crucial data. ALWAYS call 713-827-1300 first to
avoid loosing data.
October 3, 2005 - Customer lost internet explorer when pressing
F12 in Dreamweaver with IE closed. We tried to reinstall it from the
install files in the IE directory on the hard drive. The OS was at SP2.
Apparently the IE install was suited for SP1 and after the install, Windows
would not boot. Fortunately we had a backup of the OS and after restoring
the Windows directory the computer booted properly.
September 15, 2005 - Customer reported unable to ftp to
primarycomputer.net. We could not ping the site from dnsstuff. SBC
said there was nothing wrong with the modem if 4/5 lights were green, however,
when replacing the ADSL modem, pings from outside worked. Then the ip kept
changing. The DHCP lease time was set to 10 minutes so I changed it to 300
days. Ping is rejected to the modem when the Linksys BEFSX41 router
enables Block Anonymous Internet
Requests. September 13, 2005 - Linksys BEFSX41 router quit routing after
lightning strike and power interruption even though the router and the computer
equipment connected were on battery backup and did not loose power.
Solution - The equipment that couldn't route apparently had corrupted
information about the default gateway, so cycling power on the client equipment
solved the routing problem.
September 12, 2005 - What is the difference between Microsoft
Access and Microsoft SQL?
-
Price - Access is available for $300-$800;
SQL is available for $5000-$20000
-
Power - Access handles tables in the 2GB range while SQL handles 1,048,516
TB
-
SQL is more scalable, secure and robust
-
Hardware requirements are greater for SQL than Access

September 9, 2005 - I have just found a heating problem in the
HP Proliant ML110 server box. The customer reported the screen was locked
on the windows logo. I thought there was excessive heat surrounding the
back of the case which was stuck in a corner under a desk. This led to the
observation that the computer seemed to work with the cover off, however with
the first reset after failure, the SCSI drive made excessive calibration noise.
It seemed that the LSILOGIC controller was running rather hot with a USB PCI
card next to it. The solution was to move the USB card farther away, move
the SCSI drive to a more ventilated spot and place a CPU fan on the LSILOGIC
card.
